Advocate for funding for persons experiencing homelessness and more

SBCAN Board Member Emily Allen asked us to forward the following information. Emily is involved with Common Ground Santa Barbara County, which is asking county residents to contact their county supervisors to urge them not to cut programs that impact people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable individuals and families. She asks you to advocate against these cuts by speaking during the county's budget hearings, or by calling or emailing your supervisor. More information is below:

Call For Help & Action: Potential Santa Barbara County Budget Cuts
 
To build strong communities, we - as a society - must invest in the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community. We need budgets that reflects our nation's value of opportunity for all. We are facing potential Santa Barbara County budget cuts. Here is information on how you can contact the Supervisors to ask that funds be restored. The Supervisors decide what to prioritize, but you can help by providing information about these programs and the people who need them.  Learn More: www.countyofsb.org
 
POTENTIAL SERVICE LEVEL IMPACTS
 
FUNDING FOR HOMELESS SHELTERS & WARMING CENTERS: Restore funding for homeless shelters and warming centers (Department: Community Services).
 
BEHAVIORAL WELLNESS: Restore and expand Institute for Mental Disease and hospital beds. Develop a new Crisis Residential Treatment program (Department: Behavioral Wellness). 
 
SOCIAL SERVICES: Mitigate staff reductions for CalFresh, CalWORKS, Medi-Cal, In Home Supportive Services, Adult Protective Services, Subsidized Employment, Child Welfare Services, Foster Care and General Relief (Department: Social Services).  
 
Take Action! 
  • Make public comment at the June Budget Hearings: June 12th (hearing) 14th (deliberations).
  • Contact members of the Board of Supervisors in advance to urge them to restore these services in the June Budget Hearings.
